A new school year means new activities and events for St. Thomas students. On Oct. 4, hip-hop artist, scholar and
activist Olmeca performed in Scooter’s. As an artist featured by CNN Latino, Fox, and more, it came as no surprise
that his performance featuring his band really got the crowd involved.
The Fall Activities Fair took place Sept. 20 on the John P. Monahan Plaza. Students had the opportunity to meet representatives from over 140 clubs and organizations on campus so they could get involved doing something they love.
First-year student Lauren Frank was glas she went to the fair with friends. Frank said, “Because of the activities fair, I
am now in Active Minds, St. Jude Up Til Dawn, Pre-Health Professionals Club and Health and Human Performance
STAR, DAB and RHA provided a variety of fun activities for students to choose from. In Scooter’s, STAR hosted trivia
every other week and Thursday Night Live – a weekly performance series with free food. Senior Connor O’Neill said,
“I’m a big fan of the live music and free food combo. I go every week; they’ve always got such good talent.” Sometimes there are student performers, too, so it’s possible to see a fellow classmate or friend up on stage!
RHA held a tie dye event on Sept. 28 during Homecoming Week. Sophomore Heather Kilber said, “It was cool to
be able to create your own Tommie apparel that you would want to wear.” RHA also hosted Fall-a-Palooza on Oct. 7,
an event complete with caricatures, s’mores in a cup, St. Thomas trivia, pumpkin crafts, lawn games and a chocolate
fountain, all of which brought students out to enjoy the fall day.
DAB hosted La Lotería in Scooter’s, a traditionally Mexican game similar to American Bingo. Using images from Mexican culture instead of letters and numbers, players fill their game cards in a predetermined pattern to win a prize. The
event, held in Scooter’s, helped kick off newly formed group’s first year on campus.
With all of those amazing activities every week, it was hard to argue that fall wasn’t fun at St. Thomas!
