St. Thomas had a talent-filled year. With performances from band, orchestra, choirs and numerous ensembles,
the Music Department continues to flourish as an integral part of the community. Students at St. Thomas have
the opportunity to participate in band or choir in fulfillement of their fine arts requirement.
St. Thomas has several ensembles for students to join. Choir students can be members of Chamber Singers,
Concert Choir, Liturgical Choir, Donne Unite, Schola Catorum and Jazz Singers. Students who would rather
play an instrument are able to join numerous bands and other instrumental ensembles. Students may be
placed in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the Orchestra or Symphonic Band in their first year. Additionally,
students may join Chamber Winds Brass Choir, Instrumental Jazz Ensemble, a guitar ensemble – among many
others – to become further involved in the department.
The Music Department offers some truly incredible opportunities for its students. The Liturgical Choir traveled
to Rome this winter to serve as coro guida – the guiding choir – during Christmas Eve Mass at the Vatican. After
submitting a recording of its work, the choir was slected to perform and took a 10-day pilgrimage to Rome,
Vatican City and Florence. Over the years, the Music Department has brought students to Europe, Asia, Australia and South America to sing and do service work.
