The St. Thomas Dance Team brings together some highly skilled dancers from across the university, with routines ranging from jazz to modern to hip hop. Beyond dancing at football games and Purple on the Plaza, the
Dance Team also hosts clinics on campus for middle school and high school dancers.
On the national stage, the St. Thomas Dance Team placed first in the Open Division Hip Hop category and
second in the Open Jazz division at the Universal Dance Association College Nationals. The competition took
place at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. From Jan 13-15 the team competed against athletes from all
over the nation in the largest national collegiate championship in the United States. The team fought hard to
win its 11th national championship since 2006, as well as its fourth consecutive win in hip hop.
Senior and Captain Alex Brown said, “All season long we put a lot of time and effort into our practices and
training in preparation for nationals to be as confident as possible on stage.” The Dance Team had two strong
routines in part because of the great team chemistry between new and returning dancers this year. The Dance
Team, proud of its continued success, hopes to build on past experiences to continue its legacy.
