The St. Thomas Cheer Team is an essential aspect of the St. Thomas community. At basketball and football
games, the cheer team performs exciting, polished and crowd-pleasing stunts to bring both Tommie spirit
and pride to the campus. Whether a high-flying basket or a team-wide pyramid, the St. Thomas Cheer Team
practices all year to bring its best pep, spirit and stunts to the sidelines.
Beginning in late summer, the cheer team perfects its performances, stunts and cheers to use throughout
the year. From individual stunts to an entire halftime team performance, the cheerleaders constantly look for
new ways to pump up the crowd. Senior captains Hannah Lipps, Ashley Mandt and Haley Sklenar created
new and engaging cheers. All three captains wanted to build the necessary foundation for a successful year.
The cheer team brings its best performance to every game, parade and school event. Held to a high standard of representing the University of St. Thomas, the Cheer Team wears its purple uniforms with the utmost
Tommie pride. Tommie spirit would hardly be complete without the presence of the cheer team on campus,
as they lead students in cheers and chants.
Senior Captain Haley Sklenar said, “The thing I will remember most about this season is the unbelievable
amount of talent and compassion we had as a team.” Sklenar also mentions how great it was to learn from
the new students on the cheer team this year.
