The University of St. Thomas Men’s Track and Field team saw first-place finishes, region awards and broken
records. The men’s outdoor team finished the season by taking its sixth consecutive MIAC outdoor team title
while outscoring the second-place finisher by over 100 points. In the meet, the Tommies won four events,
took second place in seven events, scored in a total of 19 events, and received points from 29 athletes. Overall, the Tommies walked away with both indoor and outdoor titles this season.
Eight men were honored with region awards in their indoor events. These men included Connor O’Neill, Even
Keil and Lucas Cronin for pole vault, Preston Huddleston and O’Neill for the heptathlon, Conor White and
Nick Spann both for the long and triple jumps, Anthony Ekholm for the 60M Dash, and Austin Jochum for the
weight throw. Both Preston Huddleston and O’Neill also had the opportunity to compete in nationals for the
heptathlon title.
O’Neill broke his own record in pole vault twice this year. He had set the pole vault record at 16-4 1-2 in May
2014, and broke that first when he cleared 16-7 1-2 at the Bear Cat Twilight meet. Four days later he broke his
own record again by clearing 16-8, which ranked fifth in Division III.
Overall, the Tommies had an impressive showing this season, and plan to continue their success into the next
year. Reflecting on the season, Senior Evan Cross said, “My favorite memory from this season was competing
here at UST for our senior’s last indoor conference championship. The energy was incredible being that it was
a home meet, and everyone’s performances showed how special this team was in our home environment.”
“THE ENERGY WAS INCREDIBLE BEING
