The St. Thomas men’s tennis team had a great season with
winning records both overall and in the conference. In the
MIAC, the Tommies finished 7-2, which propelled them to
a 14-4 finish overall. The team had five players named to the
All-MIAC team, including seniors Luke Elifson, Burke Anderson, Tom Runde and Scott Wall and junior Martin Beck.
In March, the Tommies enjoyed a tournament with the St. Thomas
women’s tennis team in Hilton Head, South Carolina, where they
won four out of their five games against tough competition. Not
only did this allow the men’s and women’s tennis teams to become
closer, but having the opportunity to play outside before the indoor
season ended helped prepare the Tommies for the outdoor courts.
When playoffs rolled around, the Tommies were matched with Carleton for the first game, the team that had just beaten them 6-3. The
St. Thomas men showed perseverence and determination as they
fought to beat the Carleton Knights 5-4 to advance in the playoffs.
Eventually the Tommies lost to the undefeated Gustavus team.
Overall, St. Thomas had a season full of bonding and learned a
lot from the leaders on the team. The Tommie tennis players are
looking forward to improving over the off-season and having an
even better year by the time the next indoor season rolls around.
