The St. Thomas Men’s golf team had a commendable fall season. It began the year with a tie for second place at the Augsburg Invite, where Pete Sienko recorded the best round of the tournament with a
69. The Tommies continued their success through the season, and eventually took fourth in the MIAC
meet in Coon Rapids.
During the winter and spring, the Tommies traveled to Florida and California to continue their successful play. The West Cup tournament took place at the University of La Verne, California, where St. Thomas took sixth place out of 16 teams. The Tommies finished the tournament with four players in the top
35 out of 80 players. These players included: Sienko (77-80-72) who tied for 20th, Emmet Herb, tied
for 27th (76-80-75); Owen Nowicki tied for 29th (78-77-77); and Shane Sienko (77-73-83) and Riley
Gannon (77-79-77) tied each other for 35th.
The team was led by two MIAC Athletes of the Week: juniors Pete Sienko and Riley Gannon. In December, Sienko also had the opportunity to travel to Arizona to compete in the Patriot tourament.
Ultimately, the team had a strong year both as a team and with individual efforts. The returning members look forward to building on this year’s progress next season.
